In 1892, the first of many parks opened here when Robert Sterling Yard built his estate called “The Glen” which included a large house at its center surrounded by other buildings such as an amphitheater and tennis courts. In 1916, Mr. Yard sold his property to Daniel Llewellyn Evans who turned it into a private community known as “Glen Echo Heights” where he built about 50 houses for those who wanted to live there permanently rather than just visit occasionally like most people did before then according to author Janet Hundt (2006).
